Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Panther Club will host its 6th Annual Fall Cocktail Reception on Thursday, October 24 at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, New York. As in years past, the event will be billed as "Panther Stage" with host Ed Randall from WFAN's "Talking Baseball" and feature former New York Yankee pitcher, Ron Guidry, as special guest of the evening.
Guidry spent his entire 14 year MLB career as a pitcher for the New York Yankees from 1975-88. A two time World Champion in 77' and 78', "Louisiana Lightning" was a five time Gold-Glove winner and four-time All-Star. In 1978, he had a season for the record books, posting an impressive 25-3 record, 1.74 ERA, tossing nine shutouts, registering 248 strikeouts, and holding batters to a batting average of just .183 at the plate. During that year, he set the still standing Yankee record for most strikeouts in a single game when he fanned 18 against the California Angels on June 17 while going on to win the American League Cy Young award.
Randall, a longtime New York correspondent for ESPN Radio, will interview Guidry about his career as part of the events "Panther Stage". Randall is also a regular contributor on ESPN Classic's anthology shows and hosts the Sunday morning radio program Ed Randall's Talking Baseball, which airs on New York's WFAN-AM and nationally on Sirius XM Radio's MLB Home Plate channel.
The Panther Club is Adelphi University's primary organization for providing direct support to all men's and women's athletic programs. The Clubs' goals are simple: to generate support that is needed by our teams to be regionally and nationally competitive; to provide a focal point for students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and the community to rally around; and to create an "esprit de corps" between members.Â
Pricing, registration and table information will be made available in the coming weeks. Check back at www.aupanthers.com for full pricing and details.
