The Adelphi University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics hosted its 3rd Annual Fall Kick-Off Cocktail Party on Monday, November 8 at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, N.Y. The event featured special guest and Hall of Famer Rich "Goose" Gossage along with WFAN's Ed Randall of "Talking Baseball" fame.
The event was a complete success as over 260 people packed the Chateau Briand to meet and greet Goose Gossage and Ed Randall. For an 30 minutes Randall interviewed and interacted with Gossage on stage to the delight of the crowd as Gossage told stories about his days with the New York Yankees. Following the interview, Gossage graciously signed autographs for over 125 people, with all the proceeds from the signings donated to Adelphi Univesrity.
"This was indeed a great night for Adelphi University and Intercollegiate Athletics. We had great support from our senior staff, athletic staff, public safety and facilities, as well as alumni, sponsors and others who had a great time and were enlightened by Goose's comments. His sincerity of the state of Major League Baseball today, along with some great stories from the Yankee World Series teams was a breath of fresh air," said Adelphi Head Baseball Coach Dom Scala and Goose's former teammate.
The dinner was sponsored by the Adelphi University Panther Club, the friend and fund raising arm of the Adelphi Athletic Department and the Christopher D. Smithers Foundation, which was created to educate the public about the dangers of alcoholism. In all the night generated over $9,000 for Adelphi University Athletics.
"Because of [Goose's] tireless effort to meet and greet guests along with signing many autographs , it pushed us to our best fundraiser to date," Scala added.
Our "Panther Stage" format was a big hit and I can not thank Ed and Goose enough for the time they spent with our guests."
This was Adelphi's third year of hosting the friend and fund-raising event for the Athletics Department. Previous special guests have included former Major League Baseball player and manager, Willie Randolph, St. John's University's Lou Carnesca and WNBA President Donna Orender.
