Janet L. Ficke Field Opened: 2005 Janet L. Ficke Field was dedicated in 2005. Ficke is a pioneer in women's athletics, and served as the Adelphi Head Softball Coach at from the program's inception in 1972 until 1985. In 17 years at the helm, she amassed a 362-160-3 record, made five NCAA Division I Tournament appearances and three College World Series appearances. A 1959 graduate of Adelphi University, Ficke has been a coach, mentor, teacher and friend to the university for over 45 years. A Hall of Fame inductee and Woodruff Award recipient, Ficke continues to serve Adelphi and its community. "Ficke Field is recognition of a history of excellence by Adelphi athletes, coaches, administrators, parents, alumni and groundskeepers," Ficke said. "I am profoundly honored that the Adelphi community chose my name as an emblem for that great tradition. Those that have contributed their own brand of Adelphi Softball excellence in the past--and those that will contribute their excellence in the future--should know that between those words, 'Ficke Field', I see all of their names."
