Volleyball Earns Second Seed in Northeast-10 Tournament

Garden City, N.Y. - UMass Lowell is set to host the 2009 Northeast-10 Volleyball Tournament starting Friday at 5 p.m, the Adelphi University volleyball has earned the second seed by virtue of their second place regular season finish. The two-day tournament will feature seven matches on two courts in the Costello Athletic Center.

The quarterfinal round will open with #1 New Haven (24-4, 15-0 NE-10) versus #8 Southern Connecticut (25-9, 9-6) at 5 p.m. on the main court. Simultaneously, #2 Adelphi (25-8, 14-1) and #7 American International (23-9, 9-6) square-off on the auxiliary court.

Later in the evening, the #4 River Hawks (19-9, 11-4) swoop into the main gym at 7:30 p.m. for a match with #5 Pace University (17-10, 9-6). Over on the auxiliary court, #3 Bentley (16-11, 11-4) and #6 Le Moyne (17-9, 9-6) battle in the final match of the opening round.

Prior to day two of the NE-10 Tournament, the conference banquet will take place Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott. The banquet will crown various awards including the All-Conference Team, Player and Coach of the Year.

The semifinal round will resume at 2 p.m. on Saturday with the winner of the New Haven/Southern Connecticut matchup taking on the winner of the UMass Lowell/Pace contest on the main gym. At the same time, the winner of Adelphi/American International plays the winner of Bentley/Le Moyne on the auxiliary gym.

The NE-10 Championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday night, followed by the crowning of the Tournament MVP and the announcement of the All-Tournament Team. Admission prices for each day are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors and children, and $1.00 for students with a valid ID.
