Garden City, NY - East Coast Conference Women's Volleyball action kicks off this Wednesday evening at 7:00pm, when number two seed Adelphi University hosts number seven seed, Bridgeport University at Woodruff Hall, Garden City, New York. The Panthers posted their program's best record ever, finishing 26-6 overall, 7-2 in the ECC, while the Knights ended 20-16 overall, 3-6 in the ECC. The Panthers ended the 2007 season, breaking many of the programs long standing records. Adelphi finish second in the East Coast Conference, breaking their previous best finish of fifth. The Panthers had a program best, 11-game win streak. Additionally this is the first time in the program's history hosting an ECC Tournament Match. Individually Brittany Addeo (Minden, NV) broke the career assists record, and Lauren Flanagan (Boulder, CO) moves into second all time in Kills. These two ECC rivals have met once this season, where the Panthers won the match 3-0. The first two games were hard fought, Adelphi coming out on top 30-28, 31-29, but the last went in the Panthers favor smoothly, 30-22. Lauren Flanagan (Boulder, CO) led the Panthers with 13 kills, and Addeo tallied 32 assists in Adelphi's win. Emma Ariyo and Olga Sidorova combined for 17 kills for Bridgeport, while Maryann Strafford posted 28 assists in the Knights loss. This match marks the tenth time these two programs have met, with the Panthers leading the all time series, 5-4. The winner of this match up will continue ECC tournament play in the semi-finals against the winner of the Queens/New Haven , November 9, at a site to be determined. |
