Adelphi Finishes Road-Trip 1-3.

Springfield, Mass. - Adelphi finished a tough weekend road trip with a record of 1-3 for the weekend and 3-9 overall after two days of tough competition. On Friday the Panthers traveled to Smithfield Rhode Island to participate in a tri-meet at Bryant College, with Bryant and Assumption College.

Adelphi took on Assumption in the first game and won the match 3-1. The Panthers struggled in the first game and lost 15-30, but cam roaring back in the next three to win the match (30-23, 30-21, and 30-23). Rachael Cornick had a team-high 20 kills, while teammate Brittany Addeo contributed 43 assists to help Adelphi to the win. With the win Adelphi improved to 3-6, while Assumption dropped to 5-10.

After the Assumption game Adelphi was set to play host Bryant College. The Panthers got no rest because their games were played back-to-back. Bryant cruised past Adelphi 3-0, winning all three games comfortably (30-18, 30-17, 30-17). Cornick led the Panthers in kills with eight, and Sharon Ribera led the team with 17 assists. With the loss Adelphi dropped to 3-7 overall and 1-1 on the road trip.

Their third game of the weekend was played at the American International College Classic, which took place on Saturday, October 4th. The Panthers took on Bentley College in their first game at the Classic. Bentley took the first game without incident 30-15, but the Panthers showed heart as they played strong in the next two games. But Bentley came out on top 30-25 and 30-27. Cornick led the team in kills for a third straight game with nine, while Addeo contributed 20 assists. The loss dropped the Panthers to 3-8 overall and 1-2 on the weekend.

Adelphi wrapped up their weekend road-trip with a final game against host AIC. Adelphi played hard but AIC won three straight games to take the match 3-0 (30-19, 30-21, and 30-16). Cornick continued her strong play at the net and led the team with nine kills; Ribera collected 16 assists in the match. Adelphi now stands at 3-9 overall and finished their road-trip 1-3.

The Panthers return to action Tuesday, October 7th when they play host to Southern Connecticut State University at 7 pm.
