Queens, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team traveled to Queens, New York to take on the Knights of Queens College to open up their 2008 East Coast Conference schedule. The Panthers dropped the first game, but came back to win the second. However, the Knights proved too much as they took the next two to secure the win, handing Adelphi their first conference loss, and their second of the season. The Panthers stand at 7-2, (0-1 ECC) while the Knights advance to 5-1 (1-0 ECC). Queens jumped out to a 1-0 lead early on, but the Panthers responded by winning the second match. However, the Knights were bolstered by the strength of Enobong Shammah's 17 kills and fellow Knight, Natalie Edward's 14 kills as they outscored the Panthers 25-13 and 25-19 in the next two games. The Panther offense was led by freshman Hilary Pavels with her double-double (14 kills, 12 digs) while sophomore Heather Mau chipped in with 30 assists and junior Amy Williams registering 12 digs. The Panthers return to action in their home opener with a conference matchup against the Bears of NYIT on Thursday, September 11 at 7 pm. |
