Aug. 23, 2007 Garden City, N.Y. - Two-time defending regular season and three-time defending conference tournament champion, Dowling College (9-0 conference record in 2006 and 36-7 overall), has been selected to reclaim the East Coast Conference (ECC) volleyball title in 2007, according to a preseason poll of the league's coaches. Adelphi was selected to finish sixth overall after posting a record of 14-13 overall. The University of New Haven (second place regular season in '06 with an 8-1 record, 23-14 overall) and NYIT, (third place regular season in '06 with a 7-2 ECC mark, 18-8 overall), are picked to finish second and third, respectively. Dowling's 5'11" senior outside hitter Justyna Michon (Katowice, Poland) is the coaches' preseason selection for Player of the Year honors. In 2006, Justyna led the conference in hitting percentage and was fourth in the ECC in kills per game. Last season, she was selected as an Honorable Mention American Volleyball Coaches Association of America (AVCA) All-American and earned AVCA and Daktronics All-Northeast Region accolades. "ECC volleyball is played at or near the highest level in Division II," said Jonathan Harper, East Coast Conference Commissioner. "With many of the top players returning we expect to see a great race for the league regular season title and a fantastic ECC Championship Tournament." 2007 ECC VOLLEYBALL PRESEASON POLL Preseason Player of the Year: |
