Senior outside hitter Lauren Schultz (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) was named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All- America Women's Volleyball District I-Second Team. Schultz, a physical education major with a 3.74 grade point average, is the first player in Adelphi volleyball history to receive this honor.
Schultz led her team to a 14-17 overall season and the first round of the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) tournament. During the 2001 season, Schultz posted 10 double-doubles in kills and digs and led the team in kills averaging 3.28 per game. Schultz's name appears numerous times in the Adelphi record book statistical leaders, including third in career kills (901) and fourth in career digs (815). In 1999 and 2001 she ranked in the top five in season best kills with 327 and 341, respectively.
