Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University volleyball team finished 1-1 in a tri-match against New Jersey Tech and Merrimack, Saturday afternoon at Woodruff Hall. The Panthers dropped a five-game thriller to the Warriors, 28-30, 26-30, 30-23, 30-28, 11-15 before defeating the Highlanders, 30-14, 30-5, 30-19. Adelphi improves to 16-13 overall, setting a new Adelphi record for most wins in a season. The previous record of 15 was set in 1999 when the Panthers finished the season 15-22 overall. Adelphi faced off against Merrimack in the first match of the day. Senior Bernadette Mearini (Valley Stream, N.Y.) notched her seventh double-double of the season to lead the Panthers with 15 kills and 17 digs. Senior Mary Krines (Huntington, N.Y.) also picked up the double-double, her fifth, registering 13 kills and 17 digs. Senior Jenna Sweeney (New Bedford, Mass.) had 13 kills and senior Brianne MacArthur (Wantagh, N.Y.) collected 55 assists. The Warriors were led by freshman Lindsay Larson (Mission Vejo, CA) with a game-high 23 kills and 17 digs. The Warriors defeated New Jersey Tech in the second match, 30-17, 30-20, 30-12. Merrimack improves to 8-11 on the season. In the third match of the afternoon, Adelphi rallied back to defeat New Jersey Tech, 3-0. Krines had seven kills to lead the Panthers. New Jersey Tech falls to 0-17 on the season. Adelphi returns to conference action on Monday, traveling to Flushing, N.Y. to face Queens College at 7 p.m.
