Oct. 12, 2004 Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi collected four wins last week to lock up the third seed in this year's NYCAC women's tennis championships. The Panthers will face-off against second seeded Philadelphia in the first round. Adelphi opened the season at Philadelphia and fell 7-2. The Panthers have been on a tear since losing to Bryant on October third Adelphi has not lost. First dispatching rival C.W. Post, 7-2 then topping Concordia 8-1. Adelphi took on New Haven last Thursday and carried a 4-3 edge into the last two matches, but the contest was halted due to darkness. The match will be completed at a later date; Adelphi is currently ahead 4-3. Last Friday Adelphi traveled to Dowling, knowing a win would secure them a berth in the NYCAC Tourney. The Panthers dropped two of three doubles matches, but stormed back to take four of six singles matches to edge Dowling 5-4. On Sunday the Panthers played a non-conference match against Georgian Court. Adelphi dropped just one set, third flight doubles, winning the match 8-1. With the win Adelphi ended their week 4-0 and are currently 6-3-2 overall. |
