Women's Tennis Opens With A Win Over Chestnut Hill

West Hempstead, NY - Adelphi Women's tennis opened up their 2008 campaign with an 8-1 win over the Chestnut Hill Griffins. The Panthers came out on top in all singles matches, holding the Griffins to just one set win, while improving their record to 1-0, 0-0 ECC.

Alda Ribeiro began her season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Erin Anderson in the number one position. In her debut wearing the Brown and Gold, Carolyn Smith posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory against Cara Wallin in the second spot. Junior captain Tricia Burns closed the Panthers 6-0 sweep with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Shaina Ward.

The Panthers went two out of three in doubles competition, with wins coming in the first and second positions. Megan Margino continued her doubles success from last season with an opening 8-1 win in the number one doubles spot with partner Ribeiro. Smith and Jamie Sussman teamed up for an 8-2 victory over Rachel Steinberg and Cara Wallin.

The Panthers will return to action, September 2, when they face Georgian Court home at Hempstead Lake State Park, Hempstead, New York. Tennis action begins at 4:00 p.m.
