Bloomsburg, PA - The Adelphi women's tennis traveled to Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania on September 24 to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional. The Panthers had two doubles teams advance past the first round, while sophomore Claudia Nunez (Aventura, FL) advanced all the way to the quarterfinals. Nunez was seeded ninth in the "A" flight singles bracket, earning her a bye in the first round. In the second round Nunez topped Shana Morris of East Stroudsburg 6-0, 6-1 and followed that win up with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Bloomsburg's Emily Murphy. In the quarterfinals Nunez faced Kutztown's Kerstin Kloeffer, falling in three sets, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3. The only other Panther to make it out of the first round in singles competition was Claudette Frysztacki (Wantagh, N.Y.). Frysztacki ousted Lauren Mullen of Bryant 6-4, 4-6 and 1-0 to advance to the second round in the "B" singles draw before falling 6-3, 6-1. Nunez teamed up with Leah Moore in the "A" doubles draw to earn the 21 seed. Nunez and Moore moved to the second round with a 9-7 win over Georgian Court before falling 8-1 to a St. Rose duo. The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, September 27 when they travel to West Haven Connecticut to take on conference rival New Haven at 3:30 pm. |
