Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's tennis team opened up its season on Sunday with an 8-1 victory over cross-town rival Molloy College. The loss drops Molloy to 1-1. Junior Alda Ribeiro and Maria Toft both earned 6-0, 6-0 wins at #1 and #2 singles, respectively. Sophomore Carolyn Smith, senior Kristina Radeva, and junior Nicole Byrnes all earned wins in singles play for the Panthers. The Panthers swept doubles play in convincing fashion. Teams of Amanda Aniboli / Ribeiro and Smith / Megan Margino each recorded 8-0 victories at #2 and #3 doubles, respectively. The Panthers return to action on Friday, September 25 as they travel to the University of New Haven in their first Northeast-10 Conference match of the season at 3:30 pm. |
