Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University hosted over 200 family, friends, alumni and administrators for the Janet L. Ficke Field Dedication Ceremony held on Saturday afternoon in the Ruth S. Harley University Center. "Ficke Field is recognition of a history of excellence by Adelphi athletes, coaches, administrators, parents, alumni and groundskeepers," Ficke said. "I am profoundly honored that the Adelphi community chose my name as an emblem for that great tradition. Those that have contributed their own brand of Adelphi Softball excellence in the past--and those that will contribute their excellence in the future--should know that between those words, 'Ficke Field', I see all of their names." The Office of University Advancement along with the steering committee, made up of Sally Bowman '90, Doreen Clifford '90, Colleen Jamison-Charles '99, Judy Salerno '66, Bella Totino '87 and head softball coach Kate Whalen, was instrumental in raising $50,000 for the naming of the field. A permanent plaque will be erected at the softball field and should be in place by the first home game of the season.
