Three members of the Adelphi University softball team earned conference honors as announced by the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) today. Freshmen Tonia Trapani (Concord, CA/Carondelet) and Ivy Klein (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) and junior Kristine McCarthy (Bellerose Terrace, N.Y./Floral Park) as each earned second-team honors.
Trapani earned second-team honors at the third base position, posting a .361 batting average. In 31 games, she recorded 30 hits in 83 at bats. At the outfield position, Klein was also tabbed for the NYCAC second-team. Klein, a NYCAC Rookie of the Week, appeared in 40 games and ranked second on the team in steals. McCarthy, who started in 40 games at catcher was the third Adelphi player to receive second-team honors. McCarthy had a .359 batting average and ranked second on the team in RBI (25).
Player of the Year honors went to C.W. Post pitcher Julianne Lovejoy. Queens College shortstop Crystal Wilson was named Rookie of the Year.
This afternoon, the Panthers will compete in the NYCAC Tournament held on the campus of NY Tech. Adelphi, ranked second in the conference, received a first round bye and will play the winner of the No.3 NY Tech and No. 6 Southampton game at 4:00 p.m.
