Game One| Game Two

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team outlasted Pace University, 2-1, in a nine inning contest, before falling, 4-3, in game two. The Panthers are now 11-11 on the season. The Setters move to 8-4.


After a quiet start, the Setters got on board in the fourth inning. Junior Diana DiPiano knotted the score in the bottom of the inning with a solo homerun. The Panthers managed five hits over the next four innings, but left runners on. In the bottom of the ninth, junior Jessica Vogt doubled, then advanced to third on a SAC bunt by freshman Stephanie Byster. This set up a walk-off single by junior Angela Martin to drive Vogt in for the winning run.

Senior Samantha Tilton pitched three innings in relief for the win, allowing just two hits, with one walk and one strikeout. Senior Julie Schaper started for the Panthers, allowing four hits, one run, one earned while striking out five.

Adelphi had two runs on nine hits with no errors. Pace had one run with six hits and no errors.

Game Two
Pace took the lead in the third inning as McLean scored on a fielder's choice after tripling. Junior Katie Brophy doubled then scored on a single by junior Samantha Johnston to tie the game, 1-1. Adelphi took the lead in the fourth on a Martin single which brought in pinch runner Allison Rice. The Setters took advantage of two Panther errors in the fifth to take the lead, 3-2.

Brophy recorded her second double in the bottom of the fifth, scoring junior Kristin Brennan to tie the game for the second time. Pace drove in a run in the top of the sixth inning to move ahead, 4-3. The Panthers were unable to rally back as they game was called due to darkness.

Freshman Deirdre White (1-2) recorded the loss, giving up four hits, three runs, two earned with two strikeouts. Freshman Leighann Bell pitched two innings in relief, allowing four hits, one run, one earned.

Adelphi had three runs on nine hits with two errors. Pace had four runs on eight hits with no errors.

The Panthers return to action on Friday, March 28, hosting Molloy College at 3:00 p.m.
