Smithfield, R.I. - Julie Schaper (Warwick, NY) drove in three-runs, leading the Adelphi softball team to a 5-1 win over UMASS-Lowell. With the win, Adelphi improves to 33-17 and advances to face Southern New Hampshire in the next round. The loss drops UMASS-Lowell to 34-22 overall and eliminates the River Hawks from the Regional.

With UMASS-Lowell leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Schaper smacked a double, driving in two runs to put the Panthers on top, 2-1. Adelphi would get one more run that inning to exit the fourth inning with a 3-1 cushion.

The Panthers would tack on two insurance runs in the top of the sixth on a run scoring walk from Schaper and a RBI single from Allison Rice (Clinton, CT).

Carla Buonviaggio (Staten Island, N.Y.) took care of the UMASS-Lowell hitters, going seven innings, allowing one run and striking out seven to collect her 11th win of the season.

Adelphi will face Southern New Hampshire in the next round, with the winner advancing to face the loser of the C.W. Post-Le Moyne game.
