Game One|Game Two

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team led early in both games against #19 C.W. Post, but were unable to hold on, falling 8-4 and 5-4, in a conference doubleheader at Ficke Field. The Panthers fall to 25-12 and 12-4 in the NYCAC, while the Pioneers improve to 33-10 and 14-0 in the NYCAC.

Game One
Freshman Samantha Johnston got the Panthers on board with a solo homerun off the first pitch in inning one. Senior Amy Delmore made it a 3-0 game when she belted a two-run homer in the second, bringing home freshman Diana DiPiano. The Pioneers got on board in the fourth inning as a runner reached on an error before coming home on a double by sophomore Katie Younes.

Adelphi pushed its lead to 4-1 as sophomore Dely Franciso reached on an error and scored on an illegal pitch by Stallone. Post came back to tie the game on a three-run homer by freshman Megan Correia. Senior Kelsey Walker homered on the next at bat for what would prove to be the winning run. The Pioneers would get one more homerun in the seventh inning, for a total of three runs and the win.

Sophomore Julie Schaper recorded the loss in 5.1 innings on the mound. She allowed six hits, five runs, five earned, with four strikeouts. Senior Carla Buonviaggio pitched 1.2 innings in relief, allowing two hits for three runs, three earned.

Game Two
After a scoreless two innings, Post collected two runs in the third inning on a double. Johnston singled, driving home sophomore Amy Rice to put Adelphi on board. Schaper accounted for the second RBI, scoring Francisco to knot the score, 2-2. The Panthers took the lead in the fourth inning as senior Janeen Gasior and Johnston were each credited with a RBI.

The Pioneers rallied as Walker collected her second homerun of the day, this time a three-run effort, to seal the victory.

Sophomore Samantha Tilton pitched all seven innings, allowing nine hits, five runs, five earned, while striking out three.

Adelphi returns to action on Saturday, April 29, hosting Molloy College at 12:00 noon. The Panthers will recognize their graduating seniors before the start of the game.
