Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team swept St. Thomas Aquinas, 8-0, 2-1, in conference action this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers, who received votes in the latest NFCA Top 25 poll, improve to 27-17 and 9-3 in the ECC. The Spartans fall to 15-21 and 6-8 in league play.

Game One
Junior Jessica Vogt went 2-3 with 2 RBI and two runs scored including the game-winner in the second inning on a hit by junior Angela Martin. A triple by junior Diana DiPiano in the third drove in junior Samantha Johnston to make it 2-0. Up 3-0 going into the fourth, Vogt belted a two run home run to push the Panthers lead to five. Sophomore Katie Brophy's two RBI single in the sixth, coupled with a double by Johnston helped end the game at 8-0.

Senior Julie Schaper (15-2) pitched the four-hit shutout, walking two and striking out nine.

Adelphi had eight runs on 13 hits with no errors. STAC had no runs on four hits with two error.

Game Two
Senior Dely Francisco went 2-3 and accounted for both of the Panthers runs scored. In the first inning, she led off with a triple then rounded home plate on a RBI single by Brophy. In the third, she singled then picked up her 36th stolen base of the season, and later scored on a hit by DiPiano. The Spartans got on board in the top of the seventh with a bases loaded walk that pushed home pinch runner Kayla Cornish.

Freshman Deirdre White (3-5) struck out the final STAC batter, leaving three runners stranded.

Adelphi had two runs on five hits with no errors. STAC had one run on six hits with one error.

The Panthers are back in action tomorrow, April 20, when they play host to Philadelphia University at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, Adelphi will honor its senior class of 2008.
