Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team swept St. Thomas Aquinas, 8-0, 2-1, in conference action this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers, who received votes in the latest NFCA Top 25 poll, improve to 27-17 and 9-3 in the ECC. The Spartans fall to 15-21 and 6-8 in league play. Game One Senior Julie Schaper (15-2) pitched the four-hit shutout, walking two and striking out nine. Adelphi had eight runs on 13 hits with no errors. STAC had no runs on four hits with two error. Game Two Freshman Deirdre White (3-5) struck out the final STAC batter, leaving three runners stranded. Adelphi had two runs on five hits with no errors. STAC had one run on six hits with one error. The Panthers are back in action tomorrow, April 20, when they play host to Philadelphia University at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, Adelphi will honor its senior class of 2008. |
