Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi softball team split with Mercy College, taking the first game, 6-3, before dropping game two, 3-0. The Panthers are now 20-10 overall and 6-2 in the conference, while the Mavericks move to 14-14 and 5-9 in league play. Game One The Panthers regrouped in the bottom of the fourth, tacking on three runs to push their lead to 6-1. Senior Christina O'Hara belted a two-run homerun which also scored senior Kristin Brennan. An RBI single by Noren accounted for the final run for Adelphi, scoring Johnston. Not to be outdone, Alicia Martin knocked in a two run homer for Mercy in the seventh to close the margin, but Adelphi kept them at bay for the win. Junior Christine Robinson pitched the seven-hitter, with three runs, two earned, one walk and six strikeouts. Game Two Sophomore Leighann Bell recorded the loss, giving up thre runs, one earned with two walks and three strikeouts. The game two loss snapped a 26 game win-streak against Mercy dating back to their first contest in 1995. Adelphi is back in action this Saturday, April 18, as they travel to Sparkill, New York to take on St. Thomas Aquinas beginning at 12 noon. The Spartans are sponsoring their Pink Zone game and encourage all fans to wear pink. |
