West Haven, Conn. - The Adelphi University softball team swept host the University of New Haven, 8-0 and 6-1, in a conference doubleheader this afternoon. The Panthers have won ten straight to improve to 18-10 overall and 8-2 in the NYCAC. The Chargers pick up their first conference loss of the season, falling to 14-15-1 and 8-2. Adelphi was led offensively by freshman Samantha Johnston who was 5-for-8 on the day with five runs scored. Junior Alana daSilva was 3-for-6 with five RBI. Game One Schaper, who was 2-for-3 with a RBI, did double duty on the mound allowing just two hits in the shutout while walking two and striking out six. Adelphi had eight runs on 14 hits with no errors. New Haven had no runs on two hits with one error. Game Two Sophomore Samantha Tilton recorded the win, giving up seven hits and one run while striking out one. Adelphi had six runs on nine hits with three errors. New Haven had one run on seven hits with no errors. The Panthers return to action on Wednesday, April 12, traveling to Merrimack for non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. |
