Game One/Game Two

Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi used two grand slams in game one to take a 9-0 decision from #24 Caldwell and used two pitchers to shut down the Cougars in 6-3 game two win. With the sweep the Panthers improve to 16-10 overall, while Caldwell falls to 16-10 on the season.

Game One
Caldwell threatened in the top of the first and second innings, but Julie Schaper (Warwick, N.Y.) struck out the final batter in each inning to end the threats. In the bottom of the third Jessica Vogt (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) broke a scoreless tie when she hit a grand slam, giving Adelphi a 4-0 lead.

The Panthers loaded the bases again in the bottom of the fourth for Samantha Johnston (Port Jervis, N.Y.), who cleared the bases with another Adelphi grand slam, pushing the Panthers cushion to 8-0. Adelphi tacked on one more run when Vogt drove in Schaper, making the score 9-0.

Schaper finished off the Cougars in the bottom of the fifth, to collect the 9-0 win. Schaper pitched five innings, striking out eight and allowing just two hits.

Game Two
Caldwell got on the board first, getting a solo homerun from Katie Jackson (Pennsville, NJ) to open the third. The Panthers answered right back in the bottom of the inning, when Schaper fouled out to left field, which allowed Dely Francisco (Haverstraw, NY) to score, knotting the game at one.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Caldwell's first baseman bobbled a Carla Buonviaggio (Staten Island, N.Y.) grounder, allowing two runs to come home, giving Adelphi a 3-1 advantage. The Panthers lead was short lived, as Caldwell scored two runs on a Gina D'Amico (Turnersville, NJ) double, to pull the Cougars even.

However, Adelphi pulled away, scoring on run in the bottom of the fifth on a Diana DiPiano (Valley Stream, N.Y.) single that scored Alana daSilva (Waterloo, Canada). The Panthers tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the final score 6-3.

Shelia Feldman (Santa Clara, CA) pitched five innings, allowing three runs and striking out five for the win. Samantha Tilton (Islip, N.Y.) tossed two innings of scoreless relief.

Adelphi returns to action on Tuesday, April 11 when they travel to West Haven, Connecticut for a 2:30 pm meeting with New Haven.
