Garden City, N.Y. - Sophomore Leighann Bell accounted for a win and a save, as well as a game-winning run to help the Adelphi University softball team to a non-conference sweep over Dominican College, 5-4 and 7-3 this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers improve to 15-7, while the Chargers drop to 19-12. Senior Jessica Vogt went 3-for-6 with three runs scored, while senior Diana DiPiano was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI in the twinbill. Game One In addition to the winning run, Bell also stepped in to record the victory on the mound, giving up just two hits and no runs, while striking out four. Adelphi had five hits on eight runs with two errors. Dominican had four runs on eight hits with three errors. Game Two A double by Jeppson and a single by Martinez set up a three-run blast by Beck to center field to help the Chargers close the gap, 6-3. An RBI single by Johnston drove in junior Rochelle Noren for what would be the final run of the contest. After three more scoreless innings, the game was called due to darkness. Sophomore Marisa Romeo allowed six hits and three runs,three earned for the win. Bell came in with three hits and no runs, while fanning three in the final 3.2 innings of play for save. Adelphi had seven runs on eight hits with one error. Dominican had three runs on nine hits with no errors. The Panthers are back in action on Thursday, April 9, as they travel to Caldwell College for a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader. |
