Game One|Game Two

Garden City, N.Y. - Junior Jessica Vogt's game one run and diving catch in game two guaranteed Adelphi University's twinbill sweep over Caldwell College, 3-1, 3-2, this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers improve to 22-14 overall while the Cougars drop to 13-11.

Game One
Senior Dely Francisco opened the game with a triple then scored on the next at-bat as junior Kristin Brennan grounded out to the shortstop. Vogt tallied the game-winning run as she crossed home plate on a double by junior Christina O'Hara in the second inning. Adelphi added an insurance run in the fifth inning when Francisco walked then advanced to second on a passed ball. She then scored on a double by junior Samantha Johnston.

Senior Julie Schaper (9-2) pitched six innings with six hits, one run, two walks and three strikeouts. Senior Samantha Tilton kept the Cougars without a hit in the seventh inning to record her fourth save of the season.

Adelphi had three runs on seven hits with one error. Caldwell had one run on six hits with no errors.

Game Two
Caldwell used a solo home run by Forte to take an early lead in the second inning. This proved to be short-lived as Adelphi evened the score in the bottom of the inning as pinch runner Ashley Vinti scored on a fielder's choice by Schaper. Freshman Deirdre White, who went 2-3 in the game, put the Panthers ahead in the third with a RBI double that scored Johnston.

A Caldwell error in the fourth allowed O'Hara to score on a single by Johnston to keep Adelphi ahead. The Cougars attempted a comeback as Capardi scored on a single by Timbrook in the sixth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, with Caldwell runners on first and third, Vogt's heroics left both stranded as Adelphi held on for the win.

Freshman Leighann Bell (4-2) pitched the final five innings of the game, allowing five hits, one run while striking out two. Sophomore Christine Robinson started, giving up one hit, one run, with one walk.

Adelphi returns to action thursday, April 10, as they take on Stonehill College in North Easton, Massachusetts.
