Smithfield, R.I. - Battling bitter cold temperatures, the Adelphi University softball team (18-8) picked up a non-conference split against host Bryant University (9-6) Thursday afternoon, falling 3-2 in eight innings in the opener before rallying 5-3 in the second. Game One In the bottom of the eighth, Lindsay Connor opened the inning with a single to left. Amanda Wilbur lined a double to deep center allowing Connor to score the game-winner. Schaper recorded the loss, coming in in the final 2.2 innings of play, allowing four hits and one run, while striking out two. Adelphi had two runs on seven hits with no errors. Bryant had three runs on nine hits with no errors. Game Two Adelphi responded with two runs in the second as senior Kristina LoCastro brought in the game-winning run after a walk she advanced home on an error. The Panthers added another run in the third to hold on for a 5-3 win. The game featured a 10-minute snow delay, but once play resumed, the Bulldogs could manage just one run in the fifth. Schaper picked up the win in game-two, striking out five. Adelphi had five runs on six hits with no errors. Bryant had three runs on eight hits with two errors. Adelphi was scheduled to play Bentley College on Friday, but poor field conditions have postponed the contest. The Panthers are back in action on Tuesday, April 10, hosting Mercy College at 4:00 p.m. |
