Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team split with Dowling College, winning the first game, 8-0, but dropping the second, 4-1, in a conference doubleheader this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers are now 11-7 on the season and 1-1 in the East Coast Conference. The Golden Lions move to 12-12 and 3-1 in league play. Offensively, the Panthers were led by senior Jessica Vogt who went 4-for-6 with three runs scored and three RBI. Sophomore Stephanie Byster went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and one RBI. Game One Junior Christine Robinson held the Golden Lions to just three hits, while walking two and striking out five in the five-inning shut out. Adelphi had eight runs on 13 hits with no errors. Dowling had no run on three hits with one error. Game Two Katie Cameron recorded the win on the mound for the Golden Lions, allowing seven hits, while giving up one run. Sophomore Leighann Bell took the loss for the Panthers with eight hits, four runs, one earned, with three walks and four strikeouts. Adelphi had one run on seven hits with one error. Dowling had four runs on nine hits with one error. The Panthers are back in action on Thursday, April 2, when they travel to Philadelphia, PA to take on Holy Family in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. |
