Game One|Game Two

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team split with Dowling College yesterday afternoon at the PAL Complex in Holbrook, N.Y, dropping the first game, 9-6, and winning game two, 7-6. The Panthers are now 8-10 overall and 2-2 in the NYCAC, while the Golden Lions are now 8-14 and 1-1 in conference play.

Offensively, the Panthers were led by junior Alana daSilva who was 3-for-8, with a double for four RBI. Sophomore Julie Schaper, was 3-for-7 with three RBI and freshman Diana DiPiano who was 3-for-7 with a solo homerun and two RBI.

Game One
daSilva's single in the first inning brought home Schaper to put the Panthers on board first. The Golden Lions evened the score in the third inning. An error by Dowling in the fourth inning set up five runs for Adelphi, thanks to a double by senior Carla Buonviaggio followed by a triple from Schaper to lead 6-1.

Not to be outdone, Dowling picked up six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth led by K Gallagher's double which accounted for three RBI. The Golden Lions closed the door when they rallied two more runs in the bottom of the fifth for the win.

Buonviaggio put in 3.2 innings on the mound for the loss, giving up seven runs, seven earned, while walking four and striking out four. Junior Sheila Feldman pitched the final 2.1 innings, allowing two runs, two earned and striking out four.

Adelphi recorded six runs on eight hits with four errors. Dowling had nine runs on 10 hits with two errors.

Game Two
Schaper singled to first then advanced on a passed ball. daSilva doubled for the RBI to put the Panthers ahead 1-0. Dowling took advantage of an Adelphi error along with three stolen bases to even the score at 1-1. In innings two and three, senior Amy Delmore accounted for the next two runs to give Adelphi a 3-1 cushion. A solo home run by DiPiano in the top of the fifth kept the Panthers ahead, 4-2.

Strong hitting by Adelphi in the sixth inning, accounted for three runs on four hits. Dowling went 4-for-4 in the bottom of the sixth to challenge Adelphi, but the Panthers held on for the win.

Sophomore Samantha Tilton recorded the win, allowing six runs, five earned, with five strikeouts. Schaper, who came in relief in the six inning, walked two, with two strikeouts.

Adelphi had seven runs on 13 hits with three errors. Dowling had six runs on 11 hits with three errors.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 1, against NYIT. The doubleheader is slated for a 12:00 noon start.
