Game One /Game Two

Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team defeated American International College, 4-0, 4-1 in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers held visiting AIC to a total of eight hits and just one run in the two wins. With the sweep Adelphi improves to 5-9 overall, while AIC falls to 1-9 on the season.

Game One
Adelphi and AIC were scoreless through an inning and a half, when Diana DiPiano(Valley Stream, N.Y.) and Amy Delmore (Bellerose Manor, N.Y.) drew walks to open the bottom of the second. Dely Francisco (Haverstraw, N.Y.) slapped the ball toward the mound and reached first on an error by AIC's first baseman. Both DiPiano and Delmore scored on the play, giving the Panthers a 2-0 lead.

Moments later Francisco stole third and then home to push the Panthers advantage to 3-0, which was more then enough runs for Samantha Tilton (Islip, N.Y.), who went the distance, pitching seven innings, striking out eight and giving up just five hits to collect the 4-0 win.

Game Two
Samantha Johnston (Port Jervis, N.Y.) opened the second game with a bang, leading off the first inning with a solo home run to put the Panthers ahead 1-0. Adelphi tacked on another run in the bottom of the second to give starting pitcher Julie Schaper (Warwick, N.Y.) a two run cushion.

The Panthers entered the bottom of the sixth inning clinging to a 2-0 lead, but managed two more runs to make push their edge to 4-0. Schaper took it from there, shutting the door on AIC's final chance by allowing just one run in the top of the seventh.

Schaper went seven innings, striking out nine and giving up three hits to pick up the win.

Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, March 26 when they play host to Felician at 12:00 pm on Janet L. Ficke Field.
