Game One|Game Two
Garden City, N.Y. -
The Adelphi University softball team swept visting American International College, 3-0 and 8-1, in non-conference action this afternoon at Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers improve to 9-5 while the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-8.
Game One
After a quiet start, sophomore Jessica Vogt belted a solo homerun in the fourth in what would prove to the be the game-winner for the Panthers. Adelphi added two runs in the fifth as senior Alana daSilva and junior Dely Francisco each scored. Freshman Christine Robinson got the win on the mound, allowing four hits, no walks and striking out 13.
Adelphi had three runs on seven hits with one error. AIC had no runs on four hits with no errors.
Game Two
Vogt picked up her second RBI of the day in the first inning on a single which scored sophomore Kristin Brennan who reached on a walk. Senior Kristina LoCastro was credited with an RBI in the third inning, with Vogt making it 3-0 on a passed ball. The Yellow Jackets got on board in the fifth inning, 3-1. The Panthers rattled off five runs in the bottom of the fifth spurred by DiPiano who crossed home on a daSilva double, who then scored on a passed ball. Freshman Christina O'Hara sealed the deal with a three-run blast to make it 8-1.
Senior Sheila Feldman recorded the win, giving up seven hits, one run, one earned while fanning seven.
Adelphi had eight runs on 10 hits with one error. AIC had one run on seven hits with one error.
The Panthers are back in action tomorrow, March 25, hosting St. Anselm College at 12 noon.
