Women's Soccer Fifth NCAA Bid in Six Years

 
 

 
Women's soccer earned their fifth berth in six years.

Garden City, N.Y. - The NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Committee today announced the field of 48 teams for the 2007 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship. Each of the eight regions received six championship berths. Nineteen automatic berths are awarded for the Division II championship. Adelphi received a berth in the Northeast Regional and will face Slippery Rock in first round action on November 9.

For first- and second-round competition, teams will be paired in their respective regions with the No. 4 seed playing the No. 5 seed; and the No. 3 seed playing the No. 6 seed Friday, November 9. The winner of the No.4/5 seed game will advance to play the No. 1 seed and the winner of the No. 3/6 seed game will play the No. 2 seed on Sunday, November 11. The Far West region (Seattle Pacific site) will play first round games on Thursday, November 8 and its second round game on Saturday, November 10. All games will be played on the campus of a participating institution and will consist of two sites per region. The two finalists in each region will advance to the third- and quarterfinal-round competition to be played Friday, November 16 and Sunday, November 18. The semifinals and championship games will be played November 29 and December 1 at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Northeast Region

Bridgeport (14-6) vs. Dowling (15-6) and C.W. Post* (16-1-2) vs. winner of Bridgeport/Dowling.

Slippery Rock (16-4-1) vs. Adelphi (12-5) and West Chester* (16-2-2) vs. winner of Slippery Rock/Adelphi.

New England Region

Merrimack (12-4-4) vs. Massachusetts-Lowell (11-8-1) and Saint Rose* (18-0-2) vs. winner of Merrimack/Massachusetts-Lowell.

Franklin Pierce (13-1-5) vs. Holy Family (14-7) and Bryant* (17-1-5) vs. winner of Franklin Pierce/Holy Family.

Central Region

Mary (15-4) vs. Central Missouri (12-4-3) and Minnesota State Mankato* (17-2) vs. winner of Mary/Central Missouri.

Nebraska-Omaha (12-5) vs. Truman (15-6-1) and Winona State* (16-3-1) vs. winner of Nebraska-Omaha/Truman.

Great Lakes Region

Quincy (13-5) vs. Mercyhurst (13-4-2) and Grand Valley State* (19-0) vs. winner of Quincy/Mercyhurst.

Drury (15-4-3) vs. West Virginia Wesleyan (15-4-2) and SIU Edwardsville* (13-4-1) vs. winner of Drury/West Virginia Wesleyan.

Southeast Region

Armstrong Atlantic State* (14-4-1) vs. Lincoln Memorial (10-4-1) and Tusculum (12-5) vs. winner of Armstrong Atlantic State/Lincoln Memorial.

Columbus State* (17-3-1) vs. Queens (North Carolina) (7-10-4) and Carson-Newman vs. winner of Columbus State/Queens (North Carolina).

South Region

Ouachita Baptist (11-3-2) vs. Nova Southeastern (11-3-2) and Tampa* (15-2-2) vs. winner of Ouachita Baptist/Nova Southeastern.

West Florida (13-3) vs. Montevallo (12-6) and St. Leo* (13-4) vs winner of West Florida/Montevallo.

Midwest Region

In the 2006 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer national championship game Metropolitan State College of Denver needed overtime to earn its second women's soccer championship in three years (2004). Kira Sharp hooked a free kick into the left corner of the goal in the fourth minute of overtime to defeat Grand Valley State University 1-0.
