Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's soccer team has earned the No.5 spot in the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Soccer Tournament slated to begin this Sunday, November 1. The Panthers are paired up with #4 Merrimack for a 1:00 p.m. contest in North Andover, Massachusetts.

"I thought we did well earning the fifth seed in our first year in the conference," said Head Coach Rich Ilsley. "We didn't know what to expect and I thought we were pretty successful this year to date and hopefully we can continue."

Adelphi (10-5-2) fell short against Merrimack, 2-1, in their regular season contest on September 27, but the teams are evenly matched. Ironicially, the losses Adelphi faced in conference were the wins for Merrimack, and vice versa, with the exception of top-ranked Saint Rose. The Panthers fell 1-0 to the Golden Knights, while the Warriors dropped a 4-0 decision.

The Panthers are led this season by junior Brianne McDonnell with 17 points (5G, 7A). Junior Emily Dunne also has five goals this season, with senior Caitlin Morrison rounding out the top three with four goals.

Sophomore Dorothy Connolly is the starting netminder for Adelphi, clocking 1580 minutes with 60 saves and a 0.89 Goals Against Average.

The Warriors (13-4-2) come into the competition on a four game win streak. They are led by senior Gabrielle Gramprey with 13 goals and seven assists for 33 points. Junior Ashley Alnwick and sophomore Kara Hennigan have six goals and three assists apiece to round out the top scorers. Brittany Gustafson has started in 17 of 19 games played with 75 saves and a 0.68 GAA.

Should the Panthers advance to the semifinals, they will take on the winner of the #8 New Haven vs. #1 Saint Rose game on Thursday, November 5. The location would be at the higher seed.

"This is what we play 15 games for," Coach Ilsley added. "It's to play in the tournament and advance to the NCAA's."
