It was announced, Friday, March 24 that Adelphi women's soccer player Shannon McEntee (Valley Stream, N.Y.) will be honored as the Conde Nast Female College Athlete of the Year by the Nassau County Sports Commission. McEntee will be honored at the 12th Annual Awards Dinner, along with Adelphi men's lacrosse player Wes Green, who was named the Conde Nast Male College Athlete of The Year. The dinner will take place at 7:00 pm on Monday, May 1, 2006 at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, New York.

McEntee, a two-time All-NYCAC selection, finished her career with 18 goals, 12 assists and 48 total points. A four-time NYCAC All-Academic selection was also honored as a CoSIDA second-team academic all-district selection in 2005. McEntee also appeared in four NCAA Division II tournaments, and made one Final Four appearance.

The dinner honors athletes for excellence in sports, academics, and community service, and coaches for exceptional commitment to athletes, sportsmanship, and community. Other honorees at the 12th annual Awards Dinner will include Nassau County Hall of Fame inductees, Marv Albert (sports broadcaster), Shep Messing (soccer player) and George "Pete" Bostwick (Steeplechase Rider). UCLA tight end, Marcedes Lewis will also be honored along with Olympic Figure Skater, Emily Hughes, the Boston Celtics Wally Szczerbiak, Al Trautwig of MSG and NBC and former Hofstra football coach Joe Gardi. Adelphi University Dean for the School of Education, Ron Feingold will also be honored with the Nassau County Sports Commission Lifetime Achievement Award.

Adelphi has been awarded three of the last four Female College Athlete of The Year awards and three of the last five Male College Athlete of The Year awards.
