June 9, 2009 Albany, N.Y. - On Tuesday, June 9, the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team made the three-hour trip to Albany, New York to meet Governor David Paterson. The 2009 National Champions were one of four New York state schools to capture gold in lacrosse and were invited to the State Capitol to recognize their outstanding achievements. "Today was a tremendous honor for our student-athletes as well as Adelphi University," Head Coach Joe Spallina stated. "It was an opportunity the team earned through their hard work and dedication to win a national championship. We appreciate the recognition given to us by Governor Paterson." The Governor took time to chat with the team, shake hands and pose for pictures. In addition, the team captains presented him with an Adelphi lacrosse shirt. The Panthers were also able to take a quick tour of the Capitol Building and meet and greet with several senators. Adelphi (18-0) completed a perfect season with the school's third national title in six years. New York schools swept the men's titles led by Syracuse University, as well as C.W. Post and SUNY-Cortland who were also on hand to meet the governor. This is the first time an Adelphi team has been invited to the State Capitol to meet the Governor. |
