Sophomore midfielder Leigh Fennessey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga) and sophomore attacker Jen Garone (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) scored four goals each to lead the Adelphi Panthers to a 18-2 victory over New Haven, Saturday afternoon at Stiles Field. Adelphi moves to 4-1 on the season while New Haven drops to 1-3.
Fennessey scored her first goal just 11 seconds into the first half, spurring a 5-0 run within the first 14 minutes of play. The Chargers netted their first goal at 14:45 by Lori Nachman (Johnson City, N.Y.). The Panthers would rattle off six more goals to end the first half, 12-1.
The second half opened as almost a carbon copy of the first, this time with Garone scoring on an assist from Fennessey. Senior midfielder Kim Campbell (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) scored her first collegiate goal on an assist from Karen Sulinski (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) at 46:15. The Panthers would allow only one other Charger goal with less than two minute remaining in regulation. Dina Cali (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) clinched the Panther win on an assist from Catherine Perez (Lyndhurst, N.J./Lyndhurst) with 13 seconds remaining.
Adelphi goalie Josephine Coiro (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) registered 14 saves. New Haven goalie Lisa Simpson (Stone Ridge, N.Y.) had seven saves.
The Panthers leave the comforts of Stiles Field, embarking a six-game road trip. Adelphi's first stop is East Stroudsberg on Thursday, April 4.
