Adelphi Quotes
Courtesty Benedictine
Coach Jill Lessne-Solomon
ON WHAT SHE TOLD HER TEAM:
I kept saying (to the team) that they're on fire, so we need to be more on fire. They're going to come out strong, so we need to come out stronger. You can't let up. I kept saying you have twelve minutes left, you have twelve minutes left, so you need to give me everything you got. You got to hold your own on offense and defense. We have to have both offense and defense working together to win a championship.
ON LOSING TO C.W. POST LAST WEEK AND WINNING THIS WEEK:
After we had lost by one goal at home, obviously it was devastating. But everyone kept reminding me that we still had the best seed that we could have gotten. With the loss, people were telling me that the girls would be more determined now and would want it more. And the loss really did that. It just refocused us. After watching video from the game, we realized that they pulled moves that clearly needed to be stopped. We were preparing to defend their way of playing while also tweaking a few things in our offense. In 2004, when they beat us a home 15-9, we kind of felt that we had to rebuild. It was going back to square one. After losing to them 14-13, I knew we just had to tweak a couple things so we wouldn't make those crucial mistakes and crucial times. After that loss, we didn't have to revamp. We just had to make some minor changes to make it happen.
ON THE SPORT OF LACROSSE IN GENERAL:
Lacrosse is tremendous. (On the East Coast) It's like the fastest growing sport. All the high school teams are improving. You drive around in Garden City where Adelphi is and kids that are four and five years old are playing. It's everywhere and the up and coming thing. Teams are improving every single year. We've been fortunate to keep improving but every team we play is also getting better and better. I'll be honest with you that some of the new freshmen that we recruit have more talent than our seniors because of the growth of the sport.
ON C.W. POST:
It is clearly our biggest rivalry. We are both Long Island teams. We are recruiting a lot of the same players. We are couple miles away from each other. Its really a healthy rivalry. It's kind of funny that we have so many similarities because we clearly play two very different styles.
ON COMING TO LISLE, ILLINOIS:
It wouldn't have been so bad if it have been better weather. We just traveled all this way for rain and cold. You know here we are, and we are enjoying it. The facilities are absolutely beautiful and we are having fun at the hotel.
Meghan Blume, Jr./Midfield
We were pumped for this game. We refused to give up on this game.
ON VARYING STYLES:
New York Lacrosse is the more stereotypical aggressive lacrosse. Maryland is more of a finesse type of lacrosse. But really, lacrosse is lacrosse wherever you go. You just got to play your own game.
ON SCORING THE GAME-WINNING GOAL:
Jill told me she had confidence in me to take the shot. She said that when you go to the goal you just have to feel it. You can't hesitate. As soon as I got the ball, I told myself to just go, just go, just go and I just kept going.
Lauren Lopez, Jr./Attack
Our defense did a great job of controlling the crease. We struggled a little bit in the first game but made a few adjustments to stop them from forcing the crease. I think we did a great job today almost pretending like we were going to double, and then playing off her. I really credit the defense for defending the backside and forcing a lot of turnovers.
