May 10, 2007 Garden City, N.Y. - Jill Lessne-Solomon resigned her position as head women's lacrosse coach at Adelphi University as announced today by Director of Athletics Robert E. Hartwell. Lessne-Solomon has been the only coach the Panthers have ever known, leading the team to two National Championships and three NCAA Final Four appearances during her seven year reign. "Adelphi owes Jill a debt of gratitude for quickly building the program to national prominence, Hartwell said. "She was able to maintain the balance of academic and athletic success which shows in our team grade point average and graduation rates. Her recruiting efforts provided Adelphi with outstanding student-athletes. I would like to thank her for her service and hard work and wish her well" Lessne-Solomon helped launch the women's lacrosse program in 2001, leading the Panthers to a respectable 4-6 record in their first year. In 2004, she guided Adelphi to its first-ever NCAA title for a female sport at the school. The Panthers repeated this feat in 2006. Over her career she has amassed an 81-18 overall record and coached 16 All-Americans and 17 All-North Region and All-ECC selections. She was named the IWLCA DII Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2006 and was named the Nassau County Sports Commission Coach of the Year in 2005. "I've had wonderful years and thoroughly enjoyed coaching [at Adelphi], but at this point in my life I've decided its time to move on," Lessne-Solomon said. "I wish the Athletic Department and the women's lacrosse team continued success." |
