Garden City, N.Y. - The NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Committee has selected the teams that will compete in the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship and the Adelphi women's lacrosse team was awarded the top seed in the North Region. This will be the Panthers fifth trip to the NCAA Final Four in the past six years, two of those trips produced national titles. The championship provides for a six-team tournament. Two first-round games will be conducted May 9 at campus sites. Winners of the first round games will advance to the semifinals to play the number one seeded teams and final, to be played May 16-17 at Donald J. Kerr Stadium at Roanoke College, Salem, Virginia. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the City of Salem will serve as hosts for the championship. From the north region, the number three seed the University of New Haven will play the number two seed C.W. Post Campus/Long Island University, host. The winner will advance to play the number one seed from the north region, Adelphi University. The Panthers finished the regular season with a spotless record of 16-0 and captured the programs second straight East Coast Conference title with a record of 4-0. From the south region the number three seed Mercyhurst College will play the number two seed Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania, host.
