Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi Panthers, as yet undefeated in 2009, moved up to the top spot in the IWLCA weekly poll for the first time this season, as announced by the organization today (Mar. 30). "We are very excited to move into the number one spot," Head Coach Joe Spallina said. "While its great to be ranked first on March 31, our goal now is to remain first after May 20 and [the NCAA Tournament]." While the same 10 schools remained ranked in the poll, there was a lot of movement as only two schools held steady. Gannon was the week's biggest moved, climbing from No. 10 to No. 6, while Mercyhurst rose three spots to No. 3. The PSAC continues leads all conferences with four schools in the top-10, led by No. 3 Mercyhurst and followed by West Chester at No. 5; the Golden Rams also kept one first-place vote. Gannon followed at No. 6 while Lock Haven moved to No. 8. The East Coast Conference has three teams, starting with top-ranked Adelphi and No. 2 C. W. Post; Dowling remains in at No. 10. The Northeast-10's New Haven remained at No. 7 while Stonehill moved to No. 9. The Conference Carolinas' Limestone remains at No. 4. On Wednesday No. 7 New Haven welcomes No. 10 Dowling while No. 8 Lock Haven travels to No. 6 Gannon. Friday sees the top-ranked Panthers hosting the No. 7 Chargers, the only undefeated ranked team, and on Saturday the No. 6 Golden Knights host the No. 3 Lakers. The IWLCA poll will be released each week. IWLCA Division II Weekly Poll (30 Mar 2009) |
