Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi University was one of 19 institutions in Division II that has earned Academic Squad honors as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). In addition, 13 student-athletes have earned spots on the Division II National Academic squad for 2008. Teams that have a collective GPA of 3.0 or greater earned the distinction of being named to the All-Academic Team list; the squads with the five highest team GPAs earned the honor of being ranked one through five. Kutztown led the way with a team GPA of 3.51, while the Panthers posted a team GPA of 3.197. Adelphi placed 13 members on the Division II National Academic Squad, led by nine freshmen in Jacqueline Grant, Crystal Gray, Brittney Kinsley, Natalia Kozakiewicz, Michelle Maurici, Ornella Schneider, Amanda Serif, Laura Stafford and Lucia Vigliotti. Sophomore Erin Hahn, Junior Jaclyn Kaszubski and seniors Katelyn Jules and Kristen Karoff also earned recognition, as all athletes with a 3.3 GPA or higher were honored. The Panthers posted a record of 3-7 overall in their first season as a varsity program and will move into the Northeast-10 in the fall of 2009. |
