Box Score

Garden City, N.Y. -

The Adelphi University field hockey team traveled to Greensburg, Pennsylvania to take on Seton Hill University in its season opener. Despite taking a two-goal lead into the half, the Panthers came up short against the Griffins in overtime, 5-4. Sophomore Julianne Gerbino provided the offense for the Panthers scoring all four goals.

The Panthers struck first with 29:44 remaining in the first half when classmate Jeanette Heimerle found Gerbino for the score. Less than two minutes after the first Panther score, the sophomore duo struck again with Heimerle finding Gerbino for the goal. The Griffins would cut the Panthers' lead in half when Krista Archambeau tallied an unassisted goal with 22:08 remaining. With 20:11 left in the first half, Gerbino scored an unassisted goal for her third of the game and gave the Panthers a 3-1 lead going into the half.

Just like the first half, the Panthers would strike first in the second when Heimerle once again assisted on a Gerbino goal, her fourth on the afternoon, coming with 20:31 left in regulation. The Griffins would then score three goals in the final 17 minutes to send the game into overtime. Breanna Wrong would start the scoring affair would she found the back of the net on an unassisted goal at the 16:40 mark. Less than a minute later on a penalty corner, Michelle Hogan found Alegra Ramos to make the score 4-3. With 3:38 remaining in regulation, Archambeau tied the score, which came from Ramos.

In the overtime period, Archambeau netted the game-winning goal, her third of the game, 1:55 into the period. Hogan assisted on the goal.

Freshman Kristine Puzio had a fine debut in net for the Panthers as she set aside 14 shots. Brittany Parker and Nadine Wallace combined to stop seven shots in the win for the Griffins.

The Panthers are next in action on Wednesday, September 2 as they travel to take on Assumption College at 4:00 pm in their first NE-10 contest of the season.
