Garden City, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's bowling team has been ranked #15 in the country according to the final National Tenpin Coaches Association for the 2008-09 season. This is one spot higher than the previous poll. The team compiled a 78-68 season record which is the most in the school’s short history. The Kegler’s season was capped off with an NEC All-Tournament selection in freshman Erika Drake following a third place team finish at the NEC Tournament. Vanderbilt University of Nashville, TN was voted as the #1 team for the fourth consecutive national poll, conducted by the National Tenpin Coaches Association. This is the final NTCA poll of the 2008-09 season. Since the last poll, Vanderbilt (87-19, .821) won the Music City Classic in Smyrna, TN, which was the fifth championship of this season. Their strong season earned the Commodores a place in the NCAA Championship tournament for the fourth straight season, which will be held in Detroit, MI on April 9th through the 11th. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (78-21, .788) maintained its #2 ranking. The Huskers were selected to the NCAA Championship field once again after another stellar campaign. Nebraska closed out its season with a second place finish at the Music City Classic. Fairleigh Dickinson University of Teaneck, NJ (110-27, .803) held on to third place. The Knights had a busy March. FDU won the inaugural Northeast Conference championship in Elmwood Park; finished second at the ECAC Championships in East Brunswick, NJ; and claimed third place at the Music City Classic. The Knights will be joining the Commodores and Huskers in Detroit. Reclaiming the #4 ranking was Delaware State University of Dover, DE (117-36, .765). This was a month of firsts for the Hornets. DSU captured its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship in Greensboro, NC; won its first ECAC Championship; and gained its first selection in to the NCAA Championship tournament. Arkansas State University of Jonesboro, AR (81-27, .750) and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore of Princess Anne, MD (115-39, .747) tied for the #5 spot. Coincidentally, these programs met for the national title last season with the UMES Hawks prevailing. This season, the A-State Red Wolves could get another crack at them as both programs were chosen in to the national championship field, once again. Ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, were New Jersey City University of Jersey City, NJ (87-36, .707, D3) and the University of Central Missouri of Warrensburg, MO (84-36, .700, D2). Both programs will make the trip to Detroit and battle the D1 powers for the title. Rounding out the Top Ten was Alabama A&M University of Huntsville, AL (71-32, .689), and Sacred Heart University of Fairfield, CT (76-38, .667).
