Millsboro, DE - The Adelphi bowling team wrapped up their weekend at the UMES Hawk Classic in Millsboro, Delaware. After a 2-4 first day start, the Panthers bounced back with an 8-4 record over the final two days to move up from 11th to eighth place. The Panthers, in their second day of traditional game action, picked up their first win over Saint Francis College, 910-786 behind a 236 pin effort by freshman Danielle Merino and 196 game by junior Dianna Molenko. Freshman Erika Drake had a strong game against Kutztown, but her 234 total was not enough as Adelphi fell 886-790. Sacred Heart, in the third match of the day, held a late lead, but could not hold it as Hayes (213) and Merino (232) propelled the Panthers to victory over the Pioneers, 918-883. Hampton University and Howard University both suffered losses to the Panthers with respective scores of 919-857 and 817-726 respectively. Rounding out the day was a game against New Jersey City University where Adelphi was narrowly out bowled by 20 pins, 912-892. After the second day, Adelphi headed into the third and final day with a record of 6-6 and in eighth place. The last day consisted of six baker matches. Beginning the day was a game against host and defending NCAA Champions, the Hawks of UMES who prevailed over Adelphi by a pinfall of 688-649. The Panthers easily bowled past St. Paul's College 782-535 and then Cheyenne University 669-386. Farleigh Dickinson stopped the momentum and handed Adelphi their second loss of the day, 703-600. In the final two matches, Morgan State University and Bethune-Cookman both fell in close matches. Drake's turkey in the 10th frame lifted her team to a 694-681 win over MSU while the Wildcats of B-C were out bowled 694-681. Adelphi ended the tournament with a 10-8 record which was good enough for eighth place, second among division two opponents. Merino finished 10th overall out of 125 with a 193.17 average while Drake ranked 22nd with a 184.67 average. The Panthers are 16-21 on the season. They'll return to action on Saturday, December 6 when they travel to Richmond, Virginia to participate in the Jeanette Lee Invitational. |
