Nov. 16, 2008

Wallingford, CT - The Panthers traveled to Wallingford, Connecticut to participate in the first ever NEC Tournament. The squad was able to capture their first Northeast Conference (NEC) victory in a combined match vs. Saint Francis College. The combined format couples a traditional team game with a four game Baker match with the winner determined by total pinfall.

In the first match, Freshmen Danielle Merino and Erika Drake led the Panthers with scores of 193 and 192 respectively to help their team with a 873-822 lead. The panthers then took a commanding lead by sweeping Saint Francis in four Baker games 769-634. Nine panthers contributed to the 1642-1456 win.

Match two was a tough one as the Panthers faced Kutztown University. The team match was decided by 10 pins with Kutztown prevailing 915-905 despite fine efforts by Merino (203) and Drake (221). The baker match had many lead changes as Adelphi took three out of four games, would fall by 22. While Kutztown posted 819 pins to the Panther's 807 in the Baker sets, it was enough for a 1734-1712 victory.

The final match of the day was against the #7 Farleigh Dickinson Knights. Drake and Merino continued to bowl well with scores of 196 and 217 respectively. However, the Panthers did not have an answer for the Knights led by All-American Erica Perez. In traditional play, FDU totaled 1029 to Adelphi's 935. In Baker play, the Knights took three of four games (782-737) and a total match pinfall of 1811-1672 to give the Panthers their second loss of the day.

The Panthers finished the day 1-2 and fall to 4-12 on the season. The NEC tournament will conclude tomorrow with matches against Sacred Heart, St. Peter's, and LIU.
