Elmwood, New Jersey - The Panthers returned to Elmwood, New Jersey on Saturday and Sunday, November 1 and 2 to compete in the last two days of the FDU Fright Knight Invitational hosted by Farleigh Dickinson. The Panthers faced a tough second day going winless in traditional team matches, but then salvaged the third day by posting a 2-1 record in the baker games. Overall, Adelphi tallied a 3-10 tournament record and finished eighth out of twelve. Day 2: The start of day two began with traditional team play against #8 NJCU which resulted in a 1038-924 loss despite a strong effort by freshman Erika Drake (216). NEC rival, St. Francis College was the second match of the day. The Panthers fell 1021-911 with sophomore Danielle Locurto posting a team high of 199. The third match proved the same outcome as the previous two as Adelphi fell yet again to host FDU, 943-867. Sophomore Cristina Reale rolled a 202 to lead the Panthers in the match. The fourth game of the day was against the Hornets of Delaware State who proved to be too much to handle as they easily bowled their way to a win, 1053-854 despite a 233 effort by junior Dianna Molenko. Day two concluded with a tight match against the Pioneers of Sacred Heart. The Panthers posted a score of 846 total pins and were up by 20 with Pioneer, Sarah Pelliter left to bowl. Pelliter knocked down 27 pins to lift her team to a score of 853 and give Adelphi their fifth loss of the day, ninth straight of the tournament. Day 3: The Panthers entered the final day of the tournament in the Championship Elimination Bracket round, played baker style, with a game against Morgan State. Recovering from a tough second day, Adelphi bounced back to claim a 4-2 victory over the Bears. Sacred Heart was the next match of the day. Losing by seven pins the previous night, the Panthers turned the tables as they out bowled the Pioneers 4-2. The tournament concluded with a game against the War Eagles of Wisconsin-Whitewater in what would determine the seventh and eighth place finishes. The War Eagles got the best of the Panthers as they won 4-2 to take seventh place in the tournament. Adelphi rounded out the tournament 3-10 with an eighth place finish. Up next, the Panthers will travel to Wallingford, Connecticut on Saturday and Sunday, November 15 and 16 to compete in the two-day NEC tournament hosted by Sacred Heart University. |
