Elmwood Park, NJ - Entering the day in seventh place overall and suffering a 929-892 loss to Morgan State University, the Panthers vaulted into fifth place at the conclusion of team play. The Adelphi loss came despite fine efforts by freshmen Catherine Rawsthorne (201) and Samantha Morlack (215). The squad rallied late but was unable to overcome the 275 game fired by the MSU lead-off bowler. In the best of seven Baker round to determine the final standings, Adelphi first faced #9 Sacred Heart University. The Panthers claimed the first game but the Pioneers captured the next two. Trailing 2-1 the panthers swept the next three games and won 4-2. The team then faced #8 NJCU. The Gothic Knights claimed game one but the Panthers took the next three games and a commanding 3-1 lead. Game five was a close match that came down to the tenth frame with Adelphi falling 211-199. Game six saw a strong Panther effort and a 210-186 win for the match. The Panthers concluded the day 2-1 and the weekend at 8-5. The Panthers are now 10-8 on the season. In individual honors: Danielle Merino finished 11th among all participants with 1116 pins and a 186 average, Dianna Molenko closed out a successful weekend 15th with 1084 pins and a 180.67 average, and Catherine Rawsthorne finished with the third highest per game average among all competitors with a 197 average. The Panthers return to action at the NEC #1 event at Kutztown University November 14-15. |
