Women's Bowling Tops St. Francis and St. Peter's in NEWCBC Action

Wallington, NJ - The Adelphi University women's bowling team traveled to Wallington, New Jersey for a Northeast Women's Collegiate Bowling Conference (NEWCBC) five-team tournament. The 17th ranked Panthers picked up wins over #19 St. Peter's and #21 St. Francis to improve to 3-4 overall.

The day began with #6 NJCU. The Knights held on to, outlasting the Panthers 902-874. Freshman Kristin Hayes (202) and Danielle Locurto (179) joined with Michele Montgoris (176) to spear head the Panther effort.

The Panthers then faced #3 ranked FDU. In a see-saw battle which came down to the last frame, FDU prevailed 947-924. Adelphi got a 190 effort from Montgoris, 184 from Dianna Molenko, and another fine game (194) from Hayes in the loss.

The Panthers got into the plus column by defeating #21 St. Francis College, 927-853. St. Francis was undone by strong games from Montgoris (181), Molenko (177). Locurto (183), Hayes (222) and Freshman Gina Lella.

The Panthers then faced #7 Sacred Heart University. Sacred Heart posted a 989, while Adelphi rolled a 911. The Panthers were unable to capitalize on an outstanding 226 game rolled by Freshman Cristina Reale

The final match of the day saw the Panthers take on #19 St. Peter's College. Adelphi collected a 912-870 win behind a Hayes 222, Molenko 194, and freshman Jennifer Ferraro 178. Reale (170) and Sophomore Valerie Passaniti added to the victory.

In Sub-Varsity action, the Panthers were led by LuAnna Lasso and Senior Heather McGee who faced Sacred Heart, FDU, and New Jersey City University.

The Panthers compete next on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at North Levittown lanes at 10 am.
