Reading, PA - The Adelphi University bowling team opened the 2009-10 season with a third place finish in a field of eight at the Kutztown Fall Baker Invitational in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Panthers total pin fall of 4,338 secured them third overall, while St. Francis College and Kutztown finished first and second with totals of 4.602 and 4,501. The day began with a two pin loss to St. Peter's College. The Pea Hens rolled five straight strikes in the last game to open a lead as Adelphi fell 873-871. The squad then rebounded with a strong effort against Lincoln University as the Panthers jumped out to a 55 pin lead and extended their lead to a robust 225 pin margin in the 883-658 victory. The third match of the day saw the #10 Kutztown Golden Bears jump out to an early 27 pin lead. Kutztown then extended their lead to margin of 53 by the end of game two. However, the Panthers then rallied back and trailed by just 12 at the end of game four. The Golden Bears had a strong game five and held off Adelphi 954-919. The Black Birds of LIU stunned the Panthers and jumped out to a 71 pin lead following game two. But, a line change and some timely bowling turned the tide as Adelphi rallied back to cut the lead to just eight pins at the end of three games. A strong finish assured a 828-743 Panther win. The Panthers closed out the day against the #18 Terriers of St. Francis College. Adelphi trailed by 15 pins following game three but St. Francis fired a 208 to open a 37 pin lead. The Terriers finished the match with a 874-837 win. The Panthers return to action on Friday, October 30 at the FDU Fright Night Invite in Elmwood Park, New Jersey |
