Adelphi Women Travel To Bridgeport for ECC Quarterfinals

Garden City, N.Y. - The No.5 ranked Adelphi University women's basketball team will travel to No. 4 the University of Bridgeport on Wednesday, March 5, in the quaterfinal round of the East Coast Conference Tournament at 7:00 p.m.

The University of New Haven earned the top seed for the upcoming championship tournament, presented by Baden.

Head Coach Jess Smith's Chargers earned the top seed and third straight regular season title by virtue of a 19-1 regular season ECC mark (19-8 overall). The two-time defending tournament champions will open up defense of their title as part of ECC quarterfinal action Wednesday when they host eighth seed Dowling College.

The Panthers (14-13, 12-8) lost both regular season matches to the Purple Knights (16-11, 13-7) by a combined margin of just five points. Adelphi is 12-8 all-time versus Bridgeport.

In other quarterfinal action Wednesday, second seeded Molloy College hosts No. 7 seed Saint Thomas Aquinas College and No. 3 seed LIU/C.W. Post hosts No. 6 seed Queens College.

Quarterfinal winners advance to the Fitzgerald Center on the campus of Queens for the ECC Final Four Saturday March 8th and Sunday March 9th. Saturday semifinal matchups take place at 12:00 and 2:30 p.m. The championship game is slated for a 12:00 p.m. tip off on Sunday.
