Adelphi University junior Sebastian Nieves have been named to the First-Team All-East Coast Conference as announced on Tuesday, April 21 by the conference office. Alex Grubin (Concordia), a native of Belgrade, Serbia, has been tabbed the 2009 East Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year. Teammate Andrey Boldarev was voted the 2009 Rookie of the Year and Concordia Head Coach Neil Tarangoili was selected Coach of the Year.

Sebastian Nieves has had a stand-out year for the Panthers, handling the first-third singles role and partnering with Anton Voynov in second doubles. Overall the junior stands at 9-3 in singles and 10-2 in doubles and is ranked 14th in region. Nieves began the year with a five game winning streak, which was cut short by nationally ranked Niel Causen of Rollins College in a close, 6-4, 0-6, 2-10 outing. Nieves continued the season, commanding four out of six in mixed positions. In doubles, Nieves helped to begin the season 5-0 before the first loss and continued winning the next five of six. The junior has enjoyed two shut outs and 11 matches won by five or more games in each set.

The First Team All-Conference team is comprised of: Boldarev, David Burstein (Queens), Grubin, Richard Malobicky (Concordia), Fabio Minami (Queens) and Sebastian Nieves (Adelphi).

The Second Team All-Conference Team is comprised of: Petr Grishchenko (Dowling), Danilo Hiraoka (Queens), Viktor Kim (Concordia), James Preston (Queens), Henning Ruenz (Concordia) and Jesse Smith (Queens).
